HTC Touch Diamond – Number One Competitor for IPhone

Another HTC Touch series mobile phone has been released recently. The new comer is called The HTC Touch diamond which is believed as the number one competitor for Iphone mobile phone so far. The HTC Touch diamond sure is a great mobile phone with the following features:

Hardware Design
HTC deserves a point for the luxury design of the HTC Touch diamond mobile phone. The diamond shape in the back of this phone gives this phone elegant look. The sleek design is very well balanced which make this phone fit perfectly in your palm. The hardware button layout looks very nice the front of this phone, under the phone screen. You will find with 4 navigation buttons (Home, Back, Call Answer, Call End) complemented by a touch-sensitive scroll wheel serving as the main navigation option. There is a power button at the top and a volume keys on the left side of the phone. There is also a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera lens in the back and a secondary VGA camera in the upper right corner of the phone. One disadvantage from this phone hardware design is the all-in-one mini-USB jack which limits you to the HTC-supplied headphones. Why don’t they just give us a 3.5 mm headphone jack?

Screen
Well, basically the HTC Touch diamond mobile phone is a touch only device without a physical numeric or QWERTY keypad the quality of the screen, both in regards to touch response and resolution, is going to determine about how well the phone will perform. But don’t worry because the result of the quality test is quite pleased. Pictures, videos, and web content look very nice in the screen. The touch response also good but still it just can’t compete with Iphone touch screen quality.

Connectivity
The HTC Touch Diamond is technically a 3.5G device, sporting 7.2 HSDPA. The HTC Touch diamond also support Wi-Fi technology and the test result showed that the Wi-Fi worked very well.

TouchFLO 3D
HTC’s new Touch FLO 3D is, without question, the most aesthetically pleasing Windows Mobile skin we’ve ever seen. If you thought the HTC customizations on the original Touch and the Shadow were impressive, you’ll be blown away by the new version. The company has set a new standard for turning Windows Mobile’s corporate whitewash appearance into something you might actually call “attractive”.

Expandability
The HTC Touch Diamond sports a 4GB of internal memory, all of which is user accessible. This leaves plenty of space of music, movies, and pictures. Unfortunately, there isn’t any sort of expansion slot to expand the phone’s memory.

New Iristel IP Mobility Service Cuts Cell Phone Costs

Canada’s leading provider of wireless IP services has announced the launch of Iristel IP Mobility, a new VoIP offering that gives users a single point of contact where they can be reached by unifying fixed lines (e.g. office and home) with their cellular service.  Using Iristel IP Mobility, calls can be made and received from any location around the world on a dual mode WiFi-enabled (wireless fidelity) GSM (Global System for Mobile) mobile phone, without additional airtime, roaming fees or long distance charges.  Thus the Offering combines VoIP over Wi-Fi/GSM, Single Number Reach and Fixed Mobile Convergence

Iristel IP Mobility is a subscriber-based service that also features Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) technology, enabling users to seamlessly switch between their mobile carrier’s network and fixed lines when moving from one location to another (e.g. car to office).  All Iristel IP Mobility users, regardless of their cellular service provider, can benefit from the cost-cutting benefits of FMC technology.

More than “Single Number Reach”
Iristel IP Mobility enables subscribers to “hop” active calls between mobile phones and fixed lines with no call interruption.  With its unified features, Iristel IP Mobility offers personal services – including one voicemail box – that can be easily managed across all of the subscriber’s phone lines from a single device.

Iristel IP Mobility’s universal features enable business users to remain productive and active in conference and group calls when out of the office by providing access to all the same telephone features users would have from their desk. It also provides VoIP roaming, enabling subscribers to access fixed line services when away from home or office through wireless VoIP.

How it Works
Setting up Iristel IP Mobility is an easy and hassle-free process for any subscriber.  One phone number is provided to the subscriber with dual ringing of all fixed and mobile phones to that one number.  Iristel IP Mobility offers subscribers the option to choose which phone they want to receive calls on.  In addition, subscribers can seamlessly transfer calls from one phone to another or access universal features with the push of a button.  If a subscriber does not want to be reached, Iristel IP Mobility is easily deactivated.

Pricing and Availability
Iristel IP Mobility service plans start at Cdn$12.00 per month with a one-time set-up fee.  The new wireless service is available to cellular subscribers in Iristel’s coverage areas across Canada, including cities in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec.

Samer Bishay President and CEO, Iristel Inc. said, “Iristel IP Mobility builds on our extensive expertise in the wireless IP market, We are essentially unbundling mobility from traditional voice services offered by cellular carriers and offering a high-quality, low-cost way to maximize the use of mobile devices while cutting long distance and roaming fees.”

Michael Hyatt, CEO and Co-founder of BlueCat Networks on the other hand informed, “When I’m on the road, Iristel IP Mobility keeps me connected to my business, family and friends without having to think about additional airtime, roaming fees or long distance charges, basic single number reach and find-me-follow-me services can’t compare to the cost savings and flexibility Iristel IP Mobility offers.  Plus, predictable pricing means I don’t have any more surprises at the end of the month.”

IMS Research: Touch-Screen-Equipped Mobile Handsets Sales are Soaring

A new report from IMS Research has indicated that Touchscreen-equipped mobile handsets sales have been building steadily for over a year now, they have forecasted that growth will become even stronger. Although there were fewer than 30 million touchscreen phones sold in 2007, IMS Research expect that number to increase to over 230 million by 2012.

There are numerous indications that touchscreen-equipped mobile hand sets are poised to significantly increase their presence in the mobile handset market. For example the Recent reports and announcements from the three largest mobile phone manufacturers have highlighted a trend in the increased production of phones using touch technology. In July, LG revealed that it had sold 7 million touchscreen handsets. This announcement came just five quarters after LG launched its very first touchscreen mobile phone. Showing similar success, Samsung has also recently released the Instinct, a full touchscreen handset, through Sprint. Just one week after the launch, Sprint announced that the Instinct had already become the best selling EV-DO device in the carrier’s history. Not to be outdone, Apple reported selling 1 million of the new 3G iPhone handsets in just the first three days of its release.

The impressive growth that IMS Research is predicting will not be driven solely by the smartphone segment either. According to the IMS Research report Touchscreens & Input Technologies for Mobile Handsets, touchscreens will increasingly penetrate the much larger feature phone segment. In fact, Nokia just announced that its initial foray into the touchscreen market will be targeted at the “volume market” because that segment of the population is the largest consumer of mobile phones.

According to IMS Research analyst and report author Femi Omoni: “The original iPhone was the catalyst that created this huge market interest in touchscreen phones. The fact that it was not only popular with consumers, but also helped drive data revenues proved how important touchscreen handsets can be. Now all of the network operators and handset manufacturers want a piece of the pie.”

SMS to Garner 83% of All Mobile Messaging Revenues Through 2013

SMS will continue to maintain its lead as the highest revenue generator across all messaging categories, providing global service revenues of $177 billion in 2013. However, regional differences will determine the success of messaging expansion into the Web, advertising, and the incorporation of mobile messaging within social networking media according to a recent report by ABI Research.

For instance, developed regions of North America and Europe have the highest messaging ARPUs, and send the most messages from the computer to the mobile device using IM; Asia-Pacific subscribers’ sign up for the most SMS alert services; and Latin Americans are heavy SMS users, but prefer pay-as-you-go for all messaging services. Furthermore, these regional differences will cause established messaging suppliers to reevaluate their business models.

In a recent report entitled Mobile Messaging Services, ABI Research examines the messaging market across five common platforms: SMS, MMS, voicemail, IM, and e-mail/unified messaging. It details the drivers not only from the consumer and business end-user perspectives, but also from the key supply-side players, including device vendors, operators, and middleware providers. The report highlights developments and recent activity with mobile messaging services at the regional level and the ramifications for the future. Forecasts are offered for revenues, ARPU, customers, penetration, and usage for SMS and MMS services, along with e-mail and IM platforms. Distribution by type of delivery and payment method is also supplied for the data messaging services platforms.

It forms part of three ABI Research Services: Business Mobility, Consumer Mobility, and Mobile Content.

Principal analyst ABI Research Dan Shey says, “Innovative companies are exploring opportunities for expanding mobile messaging access to Web sites as well as targeting customers with content and ads. To be successful with these enhanced services, companies that supply mobile messaging products and services must understand the regional distributions for customer type, payment preferences, message delivery method, and usage. Device vendors and messaging platform suppliers serving the global market will have to manage across markets where growth is king – and other markets where product differentiation is king. This is a great time for smaller companies to develop new products and services individually and in partnerships to serve the niche needs of a region or country.”

In-flight Mobile Phone Use Begins in Europe

On April 2, Air France began offering voice calls on one of its jets on a trial basis, and BMI of Britain and TAP of Portugal plan to do the same.

Although U.S. airlines have shunned the service, Ryanair, Europe’s largest low-cost airline, is so confident mobile phoning will prove popular that it plans to start offering it in June without even bothering with a trial.

With the Air France trial, passengers only learn about the possibility of using their phone once they are on the plane. An announcement refers them to an instruction card in the seat pocket.

They are told to switch off their phones during take-off and landing – and a special icon has been added next to the seatbelt sign to indicate when phones can be turned on.

[...]

The technology being tested by Air France links passenger phones to an onboard network connected to the ground via satellite. OnAir, the supplier, said transmission levels are low enough to avoid affecting the safety of aircraft equipment.

OnAir is an Airbus joint venture based in Geneva and one of two companies that are offering the technology, along with AeroMobile, a British joint venture with the Norwegian telephone company Telenor.

The system being tested by Air France uses an onboard base station in the plane – called a pico cell – which communicates with passengers’ own handsets. Though low power, the pico cell, located in a compartment normally used for hand luggage, creates a network encompassing the cabin of the plane.

The base station routes phone traffic to and from the plane to a satellite which beams down to mobile networks on the ground. Meanwhile the control unit on the plane ensures that mobiles do not connect to any base stations on the ground – as is technically possible when a plane is flying below 10,000 feet.

Cell Phone Payments – A Look Into the Future

We’ve all been there. You’re waiting in line when suddenly you reach for your back pocket…and realize your wallet isn’t there. Well, good news, fellow geeks: The days of needing cash or even a credit card to pay for purchases are almost behind us. The cell phone is gaining new power in the world of payment and can actually connect you to cash right now – if you know how to make it happen.

Highlighting a variety of existing technologies, Jason Raphael of geeksaresexy.net has this to say about Cell Phone Payment:

Let’s start with what’s in the works. A developing technology called NFC, or near field communication, is growing closer to our pockets by the day. NFC lets your cell talk to other receive sites – kind of like BlueTooth, but quicker. With NFC, you can wave your phone in front of a receiver and have a connection within a second. NFC also works in a shorter range – about four inches max – and uses two-way communication, so the connection’s more secure.

As you can imagine, the possibilities with this thing are endless. The hope is that NFC will eventually act as a virtual credit card, letting you simply wave your phone in front of a panel to make a purchase. It’s also being tested for public transportation – hold your phone up to send your fare and board the bus – as well as eventually for identification, storing your official documents to send to anyone in a split second. In the future, NFC could even let your phone act as your car or house key, connecting with a panel on the door to transmit your identification and let you in.
